I´m going to Formland tomorrow to catch up on the latest trends in home accessories, design and gifts. I know for a fact that after a whole day spent there I´ll be overloaded with impressions and also the thought of "how many pillows does the world actually need??" But then again -pillows are such a great and cheap way to refresh a room - and I´m already in love with these darlings above designed by the Norvegian design duo Darling Clementine for Ferm Living.

Working from home

I´ve been working from home the last couple of days - and enjoy my view from the dinner table and the company of my little creative assistent now and then... she is already quite clever when it comes to working in Illustrator - but also a little messy and she talks a lot - so next week I´ll be back in my studio.

If you look at the second photo you can see the artwork I posted about here - we got it as a wedding present this summer - love it.

I´m going to Copenhagen on saturday to meet up with a lot of Danish bloggers - and I´m sooooo looking forward to this.

Ha ha - let´s see how the search engines react to this title! Well the thing is that our bedroom needs some love when it comes to the interior design, so I created this moodboard for the new look. Right now it´s all white and clean - and only decorated by the big world map with lots of blue and brown tones. I wish to add more softness and darker colours to the room and still like the colour combo of brown and turquoise -I´m also wondering if we should paint one wall in a dark chocolate brown, or gold or wallpaper it. Any suggestions anyone?

Today I spent most of my workday walking & talking with a new client on her land. And what a perfect day for spending the day outside with clear blue sky, sun and crisp snow. Walking and talking is a great way to start a new project - especially in this case when the job is all about branding this little piece of heaven and the unique business she has started here. Last year I went to the Ambiente fair in Frankfurt and really enjoyed the trendzones and the trendtalk by bora.herke stilbüro. I will not be going this year - so I was happy to find 4 new 2010 trend interpretations by them. They are titled.

A lot of people ask how we celebrate Christmas when in Thailand - and the answer is that we almost don´t. But on the 24th there´s always some kind of plastic tree under which we can put our small presents - from the local touristshop. And if we travel with other children like this year - we might dance around the Christmas tree and sing a song or 2 - while all the other guests look bewildered at us (it´s a Danish thing). After unwrapping the presents we eat a nice Christmas dinner - often western inspired - prepared by the resort. Last year we enjoyed this sunset - and wore funny little paper hats while dinning... It´s not the traditional way for sure - but it´s the perfect way for us.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas - just the way YOU want it to be...

Cop15 - from a graphic point of view

Untill the 18th of December COP15 is taking place in Copenhagen - so let us hope The United Nations Climate Conference will result in a global agreement to protect the Earth.

Looking at it all through my graphic design eyes - I like the blue COP15 logo - eventhough the one to the right was my favorite when I first saw the other winners last year. But I have no idea why a professional jury selected the last 2.prize logo - since it´s everything a logo shouldn´t be - maybe they just wanted an icebear! Anyway I always like to see the runner ups in such logo competitions.

My small contribution to COP15 was to design this magazine about Danish and Greenlandic climate research for a client - I always end up reading the articles while I design because I like science and love Greenland - and if you wish to read about The Melting Ice you can do it here and in Danish here, Isen smelter.

Some time ago I had to find the perfect gift - for a perfect friend with a really exquiste taste! I decided to buy a yellow log bowl for her from Karin Eriksson´s webshop Manos - which has such a wonderful collection of stuff. The service was great and when the things arrived I just had to take a photo of how delicate the packaging was. Truely a great shopping experience!

We actually started to decorate for Christmas 2 weeks ago - because Nanna couldn´t wait any longer... and since we are leaving for Thailand in 2 weeks time - I guess it´s ok with an early start. I´m not really in the mood for decorating a lot this year - so it´s mainly little things like these branches and birds you´ll find in our home.

I just noticed that I haven´t posted any of my own photos for ages - only other peoples work - which is quite strange since I started this blog as a place to share both photos, ideas and inspiration. I think it´s due to the Borrelia infection which I blame for a lot of other things too - like why I haven´t written thank-you-cards to friends and family after our wedding, and why I haven´t done any exercise before our Bikini-holiday in 3 weeks time.... So next time I stop taking photos for a longer period of time - I just might as well go to the doctor a.s.a.p because it means I´m not well... But I´m fine now - eventhough this is an old photo.

Vidunderlivet T-shirt

I designed this t-shirt some months ago for The Danish Cancer Society as part of their campaign, Vidunderlivet, which aims to inform young girls about the HPN vaccine against cervial cancer.
And now that the t-shirts have been printed - I hope to see a lot of young girls and mothers wearing it!

Here´s some of my thoughts about the design in danish.
"Motivet til den nye kampagne-T-shirt er en collage, hvor det blå logo-hjerte 'invaderes' af symboler og motiver fra de unge pigers univers. Collage-stilen understreger, at der er mange ting, der spirer og vokser i pigernes liv i netop den periode. Og symbolerne i collagen antyder nogle af de emner og den udvikling, som er på banen.

Det kribler og krabler, der drømmes, tænkes og tales. Der kigges ud i verden og ind i sig selv. En skitse på fremtiden tegnes - og det feminine blandes med rå power i tidens (rock-chick) stil. Motivet signalerer til omverden, at der foregår meget både udenpå og indeni."

Lovely ABCcards to download here and personalize for friends and family - by Brooke Reynolds of Inchmark, for DesignSponge. I´ll start doing 3 sets now for Nanna and her 2 cousins who will celebrate Christmas in Thailand with us this year - the cards will fit perfectly in my backpack.
Issue 2 of the childrens magazine Papier-mache - a great overview of the latest trends for childrens stuff - It´s like an Australian online version of the French magazine MILK.
Christmas Creatures by Mibo - so cute - and we/I really loved making the owls last month - if you want to make your own sets with a child I recommend you print the files on A3 paper instead to make them easier to cut for little hands. Enjoy!

All Is Well

Hello again and thanks for all your sweet comments - I´m happy to tell you that I´m now slowly getting back to normal - I´ve finished my treatment, I can type, I can spend time in front of my screen, I even went to a Magazine Design Conference - and the fatigue and headache has gone. I´m still tired and have given myself one more week to recover completely before I start working again - knowing that when I start working my clients will keep me busy right untill our Christmas Holidays (I´m already dreaming of beach-life and Thai-food).

The All Is Well design above can be downloaded here - it´s based on my wedding-pattern and one of my favorite affirmations from Louise Hay´s book You can Heal your Life.

Small update

It´s time for a small update - just to let you know that my Blogbreak will be a little longer than I first expected. It turned out last weekend that my Borrelia infection had spred to the central nervous system -so I´m now in treatment for Neuro borrelia which means that for the last week and the week to come - I´m a patient at the local hospital.

I check in every morning for a big dose of antibiotics - some coffee and lunch - and then I go home and relax on the sofa or in bed. I have a venous cannula inserted into my hand so theres not much else I can do - even typing is tricky. So no working or blogging these days. I´m doing fine and will get over this without problems - and I consider myself "lucky" that I´m in treatment already now - since it´s such a tricky dissease that can be hard to diagnose - but I´m not sure what to think of deer and bambiés after this experience.

It´s been quiet on my blog lately - due to a paralysing headache for the last 2 weeks. My doctor have now finally found the cause - which is a Borrelia infection.

The Borrelia comes from a tick-bite, and ticks live on mouse and deer - and since we are surrounded by deer and cute bambies in the summerhouse - I now know who´s to blame!

I´ll be back again when I get better. Take care - and remember to support Sabines Breast Cancer fundraising-project.

I´ve just spent 3 days in bed with the flu so my body needs some care now - and this cool letterpress poster might do the trick! It´s called An apple a Day - Just peel the little variety sticker from every apple you eat and affix it to a square on the poster. By Etsy seller Vik design.

I love clever graphic design like this - the only downpoint is that the organic apples I buy don´t have variety stickers - but right now I wish they had.

I spotting a trend here - with big branches used as interior decorations - I guess it´s not a new thing - but in these photos from Sandbox Studio - and Tine K - they have got it just right!

Yesterday a huge man on a bike crashed into Nanna and I on our way to kindergarden - my bike now needs a new backwheel and my bruised and shocked body really needs the long and luxurious treament at this Spa , which was booked weeks ago - I guess that´s what you call perfect timing!

I saw these amazing bookcovers by design student Michael Kosmicki at Poppytalk yesterday. And I immediately wanted to make something similar for all our books at home. Well maybe not all of them - but for those we keep around like our huge collection of Lonely Planet guidebooks.

I´m always in doubt when it comes to storing books - I´m both drawn to having a big library wall at home - but also to the Feng-shui concept of letting go of books that you´ve already read and won´t read again - so that they don´t take up "space" for new books and new knowledge.

Well here´s a blog dedicated to bookshelves, bookcases and things that look like them.

I´ve been waiting for this book to be published - it´s titled Elsk dit hjem -Love your home -and looks amazing and inspiring - with tons of tips and beautiful photos on how to create the perfect home for you! - you can have a look here.

It´s written in Danish by Feng Shui expert Ranvita la Cour - and I plan to find my own copy today - because our apartment needs a little love before the "indoor-season" starts. I love the way Ranvita writes and thinks about interior design - and Sabine has done a great job designing the book!

My contribution to the local Festuge this year - was in the newspaper yesterday. It is a part of a Grib project - where the members have teamed up to make an illustration each day for the local paper JP during the festival.

I went to my daughters kindergarden with photographer Pernille Holm Andersen - who is so clever when it comes to childrens portraits - and we asked the children what they think a Festuge/Festival is - and we got some very wise answers - some great portraits - and some self-portraits drawn by the kids - and afterwards I put it all together.

Here´s the final result - with the kids´ answers to the question - What is a Festival?

The local Festuge here in Århus has started today -and it´s my lucky day with both the opening of an exhibition by my favorite local artist, Søren Behncke and the opening of Avantgarden´s group exhibition involving these two talented ladies. Maybe I´ll see you there!

We had the most fantastic wedding-party this weekend - and I´m so happy and thankfull that we shared this day with our wonderful friends and family - and I still have sore feet from dancing untill 4 in the morning! Here´s a photo of the studio friday morning when I did all the flower arrangements - and a photo of how they looked in the restaurant this saturday. p.s the vases are from Ikea!

An apple a day...

Outside the studio our apple trees and pear trees are now full of ripe pears and sour green apples. So I think it´s about time I get around to post some of the collages I made this spring, inspired by our Hanami-event and the flowering appletrees.

The collages measure 20 x20 cm and are sold in pairs for 180 $/900 ddk- and you can mix and match them as you like.

The lovely and always inspiring Holly from Decor8 asked me to guestblog - while she is busy moving to Germany - what an honour! Holly has asked co-bloggers to share 5 of their favorite things in their home. My favorite things in my home will be shared one of the next days on Decor8 - I´ll let you know. But to be honest my favorite home right now is our summerhouse where we spend 3 wonderful and relaxing weeks in July. So as a little extra feature I´ve put together my 5 favorite things from our summerhouse also.

That the weather was perfect for painting the house black and white (instead of white & blue).
Making my own ceramic bowls at a workshop with a local ceramist (both Nanna & I was very pleased with our results)

I´m just popping in again to let you know I´m back from my Holidays - and also back from my 3 week internet detox! The internet-detox was great and I highly recommend it - eventhough the first days were hard and with the same reactions like when you stop smoking... a bit scary actually to find out how much I love and am addicted to the Internet!

I have tons of deadlines in my studio and a wedding party to plan - but I´ll try to get back to the habit of posting on a regular basis - see you soon! p.s I missed you.

Summer Holiday

I´m busy at the studio with the last deadlines before our holiday next week. And after 2 weeks of wonderful weather I´m more than ready to kick back and enjoy the summer here in Denmark. I´m leaving you with these interiors from some Swedish summerhouses from Skona Hem and I wish you all a wonderful summer - I´ll be back in August.

Wedding planner

Now that my bachelorette party is over - I´m really looking forward to our big wedding party in August (we got married at Christmas). The party will be held at a restaurant inside the local amusement park - and above you can see my moodboards - and our wedding invitation, which I designed to look like a ticket for the amusement park.

I would have loved a letterpress invitation but it´s hard to find a letterpress in Denmark - so instead I printed it on some lovely thick paper on my inkjet printer - and handpunched the top and bottom circles and created a dotted "tear of effect" with a stich marker/paper perforator. The envelopes were handwritten by me - and stamped at the back with a custom made stamp with our names. Easy - simple and very inexpensive compared to a letterpress invitation.

This is what our studio looked like this saturday at lunch. My friends had organized a super Bachelorette-party for me - before our weddingparty in August. It was such a treat to spend the whole day and night with 14 of my wonderful girlfriends. On the picture I´m holding my new gymnastic ribbon which was a gift :) - I can´t tell you anymore or show more photos - because the rest is top secret - and my brain is completely blank today anyway. Tak tøser!

Adopt an Owl

Pillows for my nieces

This weekend we celebrated the christening of my sister´s babygirl Anna. My present was a pillow from Tulipaner & Tomater with Anna´s name on it - and with a piece of fabric from one of Nanna´s old dresses incorporated (the graphic flowers off course). The other pillow on the photo is for her sister (for her birthday). I ordered two matching pillows since the girls will probably end up sharing a room one day. You can see them both here.

And since "I had hired a pro" to do the sewing - I had time to create a little collage owl to match the pillow - so please notice how some fabric from the pillow is repeated on the owl´s wings - clever right!?

I´m glad my sister had reminded me that she would like an owl for the nursery - because I tend to forget that they actually make a great present - and instead I run out and buy some soft baby stuff. Anyway more owls are on their way to my shop soon.

Summerhouse tour

I´ve noticed that I often refer to our weekends in our summerhouse - but forget to explain why I love this spot so much. So here are a few pics from this weekend - just to give you an idea why our little spot is so great.

Fishing for shrimps at the beach, relaxed lunch with lots of fresh fish and new potatoes, surrounded by green, and visits from our family and all their children.

You can catch a small house & studio tour at Made by Girl with my studio-mate Line Juhl Hansen. - with photos of her cosy apartment and our lovely shared studio.

We had a visit from a photographer and journalist in our homes and studio some time ago - and our spaces will be shown in the Danish magazine Boligliv - we just don´t know when and can´t show you those pictures yet - but let us know if you wish to publish them in a magazine outside Denmark.

I get so happy when I see clever illustrations for children and the young at heart! - like these above from the French company L´affiche Moderne by illustrator Sigrid Martinez and Marion Billet.

And I´m also happy to welcome new Norwegian readers on my blog - after my blog got mentioned in the Norwegian magazine ROM123 (while I was off-line this weekend in our summerhouse).
I´m half Norwegian and have spent many summer and winter holidays in Norway as a child - so "Hei Norge!"

repeat pattern

I made the logo above for a client/crafter with a cute shop named Tulipaner & Tomater, Tulips & tomates. And today I turned the logo into a repeat pattern while I kept saying to myself "the guides and grids are my friends." phew! The design is now uploaded to Spoonflower - and I´m sooo excited to see the pattern printed on fabric - and turned into little projects like the pillow below made for my daughter by Tulipaner & Tomater.

The appletrees are in full bloom outside the studio now - and we hope the flowers will last untill this sunday - where we have our little hanami event. The studio will be open from 11- 16 - and everyone is welcome to have a look at the flowering appletrees outside and our work inside.

The picture above is from my small photosession the other day - I plan to make some Hanami inspired prints for sunday - and they will also be added to my shop afterwards.

I´m signing off for the weekend with this wonderful positive wall - as a reminder to myself that it´s a positive thing that I had to cancel my trip to Amsterdam this weekend due to lots of work and deadlines in my designstudio - at least my bank will be happy. It´s designed by a dutch graphic designer Maartje Kuiper for an Dutch interior exhibition, where VT Wonen covered a wall in positive quotes.
