Happy new year 2010

lumimarja - finnish snowberries

I´m quite smitten with the Lumimarja pattern - since I saw it in a shop this weekend - and I thought it was a perfect match to my photo below. The patterne comes in various colours and is designed by finnish designer Erja Hirvi, for Marimekko.

All Is Well

Hello again and thanks for all your sweet comments - I´m happy to tell you that I´m now slowly getting back to normal - I´ve finished my treatment, I can type, I can spend time in front of my screen, I even went to a Magazine Design Conference - and the fatigue and headache has gone. I´m still tired and have given myself one more week to recover completely before I start working again - knowing that when I start working my clients will keep me busy right untill our Christmas Holidays (I´m already dreaming of beach-life and Thai-food).

The All Is Well design above can be downloaded here - it´s based on my wedding-pattern and one of my favorite affirmations from Louise Hay´s book You can Heal your Life.
Take care and have a healing and cozy weekend!

french eye candy

Let´s start the week with some French eye candy by artist and visionary Carolyn Quartermaine from Vogue Living. I love her mix of flouro colours and lots of white.

invitation with cars

Just made this illustration for an invitation - and plan to make it into a repeat pattern also - maybe with more types of vechicles. We got our sample from Spoonflower - it´s Ok but not great and I wish I knew about other places that print small runs on fabric - do you know any? - then please share.

Pattern design 2008

Like last year - I was asked to design the pattern for a silk scarf sold by the Danish Cancer Society. It´s 65x65 cm - in 100% silk and the price is 129 dkr, and now you can buy it in their webshop here. It´s always a litlle nerve-wrecking to see the final result - but I love how the colours came out in the final print.

My friend came by the studio the other day for some coffee and I snapped this photo of the scarf on her - since her outfit was a perfect match - and I also put together some items from the YouHeShe webshop which I would love to style it with.

I´m in Copenhagen untill wensday - for a magazine design conference - so see you later.

This years "breast cancer awereness" print in DK

Here´s the print for this years Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Denmark. This year Julie Storm is the woman behind the design and I think she did a great job -you can see all the products here - or in the shops all over Denmark this month.

I designed the print last year - and hope this will inspire others to use their creativity and talents to support an issue close to their heart.

Eco-bag illustration

I just designed this print for a Jackpot´s Eco-bag competition - the pattern is based on a photo taken with my mobile phone... and the flowers are from outside my daughters kindergarden...
Have a great weekend and please come and visit our studio this weekend!

It´s a GREAT day today

It´s a GREAT day today - found out this morning that Holly at Decor8 had written a wonderful post about her love of owls - and had featured some of mine and Line´s work on her blog - so welcome if you are a new visitor here - and thank you so much Holly!

Also my entry for Tigerprint´s Female Wrap competition was choosen as one of 4 runners up, in a competition with lots of great entries - here´s what they wrote. "Gorgeous colour palette which is really on trend. The fantastic repeat for the main print is really different and we would consider putting the leaf and berry outlines in a thin gold coloured foil for a luxury look. Really fab, well done".

And finally my shop has been updated with my Clouds&Quotes Cards. Since they are meant to be used both as greeting cards and little notes to oneself -I´ve decided that a set consist of: 8 cards (4x2) + 4 high quality envelopes in ivory. They are printet in sky blue and silver - and the front is coated with a matte finish. The back is uncoated so you can write on it with both pen or pencil. Price pr. set 25$ + shipping. See them all here.

Maybe I should buy a Lotto ticket on my way home - seems like I´m in luck! Hope you´have a great day too...

P.s Tomorrow 1st of October means the beginning of the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month - and I´ll make it a PINK MONTH here at my blog - since breast cancer remains an issue close to my heart - will you join me?

Colour Inspiration

Line - my studio-mate asked me the other day to make a little colourboard for her next paintings - and this is what I quickly whipped together for her. Hope it will inspire you too - and if you know who made the cute rabbit let me know ´cause I completely forgot.

Pillows by Plankdesign

Danish textile designer Mai Plank behind Plankdesign has´s just launched her first collection of cushions in various sizes and colour combinations and coffee- and tea cosies. I really like her fresh colour combinations with a touch of retro - and think they fit the trend right now so well.

dreamy retreat

Here´s my other entry for the Amy Butler mood board contest - called Dreamy Retreat. It´s inspired by an image I got during a workshop where I had to vizualize myself as a millionaire - and this is pretty much what I saw... now I am just curious to find out how and when I will end up there....

patterns & project

This week I´ve been working with patterns for a project - and I´ve had patterns on my mind for the last days - so here´s some mobile pics of patterns in my studio at the moment. We love our new pillow - in the middle from MeyerLavigne who have started a great blog recently. I´ve also had a studio visit from a little bird, who just walked in through the door the first time, and the second time it just flew in for a quick visit - so cute. Tomorrow the studio will be full of guest and food and we are busy preparing for the reception - so see you next week.

A dynamic design duo + new blogs

It was love at first sight when I saw the pillow, top row, middle designed by Meyer-Lavigne a Danish design collective. Meyer-Lavigne mainly designs a wide variety of products for the home, as vases, bowls, cushions and bedding. Besides their own line of porcelain, they take on assignments for both bigger and smaller design companies. They also do some great
stylist and free-lance writing for different style magazines, with a focus on interior design and interior decorating. Check out their new website here.

I´ve also recently discovered 2 new danish blogs in english, that share my interest & taste in design and stuff - and I think you´ll enjoy them too. The first is Carpeitem written by Svanna, who originates from The Faroe Islands but lives in Copenhagen. The second is Copenhagen Collage created by Mette and Karline. Mette is a full blood creative dane and a print & pattern designer. Karline is a halfbreed American, born and raised in Seattle to a danish mother and american father and a novice illustrator, multimedia artist, and expert shopper & city scout. Their motto is: to inspire is to give, to be inspired is to live. I met Karline in person in Copenhagen 2 weeks ago for coffee and a long talk about design, blogs, passions and ideas and I´m sure their blog will be an interesting future read and I´m always happy to welcome new danish design blogs in English.

Wallcollection

Another thing I´ve been dying to share with you is
Wallcollection which is a collaboration between Trine from Ferm Living & Mikkel from BechBox (also part of the Grib-project). They have just launched Wallcollection – made-to-measure designer wallpapers. The designs above are by the artists: Mette Løber, Julia Rothman, Wendy Plovmand and Emil Kozak - they also have a section where you can custom your own wallpaper. HAve fun and have a great weekend!

Textiles from Ferm Living

Trine Andersen, the founder of Ferm Living was part of our local Grib project - and ever since I saw some of her new textile products in her studio in january - I´ve been dying to share them with you, because they are just as fresh and spot on! as the rest of her products. You can see them on the website here - and if you live in the US you can find the more info here.

Blog Local Week - Old Books

I´m not sure how local these patterns are - but they are from some covers of old books found in a local thriftshop - and I´m inspired by their texture and colour palette.

Happy raincoat

On a grey and rainy winter morning this raincoat, Pink Bird by Danefæ made me happy. Raincoats with prints are very popular here right now - and it somehows makes sense to wear something bright when the weather is grey. I´m wearing this today.
