Handmade Holiday decorations

I´m todays guest at Bloesem - where I´ve written a small post and how-to guide about my handmade holiday decorations this year. I was inspired by some capice shells I had bought in Asia – but I think you can get hold of them almost everywhere – and I tried to transfer some of my photos and prints onto them – and really liked the combination of the delicate shell and the graphic prints. You can read more here.

Our little Christmas Market

It´s been quiet on my blog which means that I´ve been busy IRL. Busy making posters and invitations for our little Christmas Market in our studio - and you´re more than welcome!
Busy making a studio blog - about what goes on in & outside our studio - you can read it in Danish here. And busy making a facebook group about the the same subject - which you can join here.

And busy designing logo´s and Christmas cards, and busy trying to develop my little design studio, busy cleaning after we had a new wall put up in the studio, busy decorating for Christmas at home since Nanna couldn´t wait any longer - and busy getting all my projects ready before the 17.th of december where we are off for a long and warm holiday in Malaysia and Thailand full of rest!

Christmas market

I´ve been busy packing Christmas cards and making stuff the last weeks - to get ready for the Christmas Market at Bredallund this weekend - so if you are anywhere near Vejle please come by on saturday or sunday between 11- 17. (I´ll only be there saturday).
We are also having a Christmas Market at our studio the 6-7 th december but more on that later.

Sorry about the poor photo quality - but I´ve made some pretty shells with print this year and some snow crystal with Hama-beads - I make them with my daugther and it´s such a cosy thing to sit and do together - because eventually she will start talking about her day, her friends and share her thoughts while our hands are busy...

Norwegian Cones

I´m also inspired by these lovely cones, made by the Jeanette, from the Norwegian blog Fryd+Design, which I´ve recently added to my blogroll. I think she did a great job and love her photos too. I´m actually half-norwegian - which explains my crazy last name which no one can spell or pronounce - and in case you wonder my first name is danish/norwegian and pronounced like the english word "Sizzle".

Cones inspiration

We have so many cones around our summerhouse - so last year I was looking for some ideas about how to decorate with cones and I couldn´t find any I liked. This year however I spot pretty cone-decorations everywhere - these above are from Rum and Bobedre.
I know it´s early for Christmas stuff - but I´ve got my hands full of christmas projects already - and the first Christmas market coming up this weekend at Bredallund near Vejle.

Crafts market in Aarhus

It´s time for another Crafts Market - this time in Århus at the charming
Kloster Torv on Saturday 23. august - from 10-15. I´m going there to pick up a cushion like the one to the left made by Tulipaner og Tomater. I´m not sure who else will be there, the pictures are from previous markets - but you can see more here.

Crafts Market in Copenhagen

It´s time again for the annual Crafts Market at Frue Plads in Copenhagen - from 14th - 16th of August. With more than 130 danish crafters showing their products - it´s a great way to get an idea of whats going on in Danish Crafts. Above is a few items I would love to hold in my hands - but I´m going to Costa Brava in Spain to celebrate my mother in law´s 75th birthday - so I´ll hold a map of Barcelona, books and a Shangria in my hands instead - see you next week.

A dynamic design duo + new blogs

It was love at first sight when I saw the pillow, top row, middle designed by Meyer-Lavigne a Danish design collective. Meyer-Lavigne mainly designs a wide variety of products for the home, as vases, bowls, cushions and bedding. Besides their own line of porcelain, they take on assignments for both bigger and smaller design companies. They also do some great
stylist and free-lance writing for different style magazines, with a focus on interior design and interior decorating. Check out their new website here.

I´ve also recently discovered 2 new danish blogs in english, that share my interest & taste in design and stuff - and I think you´ll enjoy them too. The first is Carpeitem written by Svanna, who originates from The Faroe Islands but lives in Copenhagen. The second is Copenhagen Collage created by Mette and Karline. Mette is a full blood creative dane and a print & pattern designer. Karline is a halfbreed American, born and raised in Seattle to a danish mother and american father and a novice illustrator, multimedia artist, and expert shopper & city scout. Their motto is: to inspire is to give, to be inspired is to live. I met Karline in person in Copenhagen 2 weeks ago for coffee and a long talk about design, blogs, passions and ideas and I´m sure their blog will be an interesting future read and I´m always happy to welcome new danish design blogs in English.

Crafts market in Aarhus

This weekend there´s a big Crafts Market in Aarhus, with lots of great crafters. I went there last year and got this vase from Fabula - but what I really really would have liked was one of these vases by Sandra Davolio - because for a person like me who adores anything in the shape of "from under the sea" - they are hard to resist - don´t you think?

Odd Story

I discovered ceramic designer Tina Marie Bentsen at The Craft Fair website and instantly fell in love with her work and the project Odd Story shown above which is made by cast wall pieces with transfer drawings - and I want them all! Tina Marie´s website is not up yet - but you can see more of her work under her profile at coroflot -portfolios & jobs for creative work - a new website to me that needs to be explored...

Crafts Fair Copenhagen

If you happen to be anywhere near Copenhagen between 23-25 of August make sure to visit the Crafts Fair 2007 at Frue Plads. 140 members of the Danish Arts and Crafts Association will participate. There´s also a lot of great stuff to be found if you check out the website and look under Deltagere/members. Shown here are a only a few of my favorites, fabrics by Signe Lybeck, melanin rings inspired by cup handles by Karen Fly, and ceramics by Jane Holmberg Andersen. I´m sorry I can´t link to them directly because it seems like very few Danish crafters have webpages that look as good as their products! - on the postitive side the product shots have improved a lot since last year.

This is love forever

I´m a little late when it comes to introducing my Valentine Swap partner, Kayte from This is love forever. I got such wonderful stuff from her last month. And the funny thing is that a few days before I knew she was my swap partner I added her heart pincushion -top right -to my favorites at Flickr. The patchwork hearts are filled with lavender... and makes my paper at work smell yummy. Make sure to visit her great blog and Etsy shop, and don´t miss her post about this book shop, and see how she plays with food and fabric.

Seahorse Softie

When I started this blog - exactly a year ago today! I meant to be posting some of my craft projects here - but sometimes things doesn´t turn out as planned - and so the last year has been very busy and very little crafty. But I used to be crafty and I will be again - and in the meantime I´ve just submitted this Seahorse for The Softie Award. I made this for Nanna 2 years ago. It´s is the second of two and so far the only softies I´ve ever made. I just cut the pattern looking at a seahorse and used a fleece blanket that was laying around. I love seahorses - and this one is really nice to wrap around your shoulders. Now Nanna also uses it to ride on - in true mermaid fashion. Find inspiration for future softie projects here at this amazing Flickr-pool.

Here are my little paper birds for the Holiday Ornaments Swap. They are made of japanese craft paper which I got in Singapore this summer - thanks to Imelda . I don´t know who made the clever prototype, but they are quite simple to make if you have a glue gun - and I will post the instructions later this week if you wish? My swap partners all got 3 birds - for Peace Joy and Happiness - since that what it´s all about!
If you experience problems with posting photos on Blogger- just hit F5 and you´ll be fine!

Fab Fabula!

So November is here - and it´s not a very good start when you wake up to really wet snow, strong winds and a bikeride. The photo is from my window this morning just to prove the snow - and to show off my new vase from Fabula. I´ve had my eyes on it for a long time and finally got it this friday at a big craftsmarket here in Århus. Come on November - you can do better than this!

Ha ha - this is fun! Got my badge machine today and these are my first ones - but surely not the last ones...
