Wishing for...

I´m wishing for spring now - eventhough I enjoy working from home due to all the snow and the low temperatures at the studio. Today my little shy assistent drew this wishlist for her upcoming 6-years birthday - and as a surprise to her (and a help to our guest) I turned her drawing into real photos. Nothing pink - and no mice please!

Working from home

I´ve been working from home the last couple of days - and enjoy my view from the dinner table and the company of my little creative assistent now and then... she is already quite clever when it comes to working in Illustrator - but also a little messy and she talks a lot - so next week I´ll be back in my studio.

If you look at the second photo you can see the artwork I posted about here - we got it as a wedding present this summer - love it.

I´m going to Copenhagen on saturday to meet up with a lot of Danish bloggers - and I´m sooooo looking forward to this.

Angel by Nanna

The proud mother in me just wish to share this adorable drawing with my dear readers. Also because I really can´t fathom that my "little daughter" is so big now that she can draw angels - and will turn 6 years old soon...

I´m slowly catching up on all the recent post around the Blogs - and here are 3 of my favorites.

1. Lovely ABCcards to download here and personalize for friends and family - by Brooke Reynolds of Inchmark, for DesignSponge. I´ll start doing 3 sets now for Nanna and her 2 cousins who will celebrate Christmas in Thailand with us this year - the cards will fit perfectly in my backpack.
2. Issue 2 of the childrens magazine Papier-mache - a great overview of the latest trends for childrens stuff - It´s like an Australian online version of the French magazine MILK.
3. Christmas Creatures by Mibo - so cute - and we/I really loved making the owls last month - if you want to make your own sets with a child I recommend you print the files on A3 paper instead to make them easier to cut for little hands. Enjoy!

5 years of joy

5 years ago today I became the mother of the most wonderful daughter in the world.

Nanna is a goddess in Norse mythology, the daughter of Nepr and wife of Baldr (Balder). She and Baldr are both Æsir and live together in the hall of Breidablik in Asgard. According to Gylfaginning, when Baldr was unintentionally slain by the blind god Höðr through the treachery of Loki, she was overcome with grief and died. She was placed on the funeral pyre alongside her husband on his ship Hringhorni which was then launched out to sea.

In Sumerian it means " The one that lights up"

Nanna var sumerernes månegud, og Enlils og Ninlils førstefødte søn. Han var gud for vækst og frugtbarhed, og bestemte over kalenderen og årstiderne. Nanna betyder på sumerisk "Den der lyser op".

Proud

Can you tell how proud she was of her first handwritten birthday note -

for her cousins birthday. Just had to share - being a proud mother myself.

Christmas market

I´ve been busy packing Christmas cards and making stuff the last weeks - to get ready for the Christmas Market at Bredallund this weekend - so if you are anywhere near Vejle please come by on saturday or sunday between 11- 17. (I´ll only be there saturday).

We are also having a Christmas Market at our studio the 6-7 th december but more on that later.

Sorry about the poor photo quality - but I´ve made some pretty shells with print this year and some snow crystal with Hama-beads - I make them with my daugther and it´s such a cosy thing to sit and do together - because eventually she will start talking about her day, her friends and share her thoughts while our hands are busy...

Kom og kig, køb - og sig hej på lørdag, hvor jeg deltager i julemarkedet på Bredallund ved Vejle. Jeg sælger mine julekort, uglecollager, til & fra kort, smukke skaller med print og snekrystaller der lyser i mørket... og der er mange andre lækre sager at finde.

Der er åbent 11-17 lørdag og søndag - men jeg er der kun lørdag - så kom og sig hej!

My home 2 - Nanna´s room

Well - this is another part of my home... and a little less zen I might add. If you are a parent too you probably know this scenario. The top picture is from when my daughter Nanna was less than 2 years old - and I still had a chance to "control" her room and the amount of toys in it. After she turned 2 things got a little out of hand - (thanks to her uncle who works at Lego!) and the amount of toys and stuff have grown rapidly ever since - so now it looks more like the second picture... and my plan is now to make it look more like the last picture... I´ll keep you posted on the project - and if you have any good advice on how to spend less time clearing the clutter in a childs room- please feel free to share them with me.

pressed flowers

Here´s our weekend projects. Nanna and I have been collecting and pressing flowers at the summerhouse since spring - and I finally found a way to frame them - between 2 pieces of glas - simple and pretty. And our new Caravaggio lamp by Cecilie Manz have been hung. Hope you had a lovely weekend too.

Cool Girl Inspiration

Here´s my mood board for the Super Girl I´m about to create for the Grib.2 challenge. The target group is girls from 4-6 years and so far she is strong like Pippi - saves the world like Barbapapa - and is as cool as Lauren Childs figures - and she can see colours not visible to the human eye. The world needs a new and fresh superhero - so dear readers please leave a comment and tell me what qualities, superpowers and gadgets my little hero should have!

Back to normal

Today things are back to normal again - after one month without Kindergarten due to the strike - so no more stress and organizing where to play and who to look after who, no more trips to various museums, jumping in the trampoline and eating icecream everyday - but hopefully we will continue to have little guest in the studio - painting little masterpieces - and proudly sharing them afterwards - there has been quite a production going on here and the smiles on their little faces afterwards has been so rewarding. Our flat is also back to normal now - 6 weeks after the water damage - and we now have newly painted walls and a lovely new wooden floor - you see I´m practicing to focus on the good things and not give energy to things you can´t change anyway - and all this has been a good lesson and opportunity to practice this skill .)

the colour yellow

2 weeks ago we had a big water damage in our apartment - and relocated to our summerhouse right away - due to a foul smell and all the repairs going on. Luckily we rent the apartment and the weather has been perfect for some countryside living. Each day we pass these yellow rapeseed fields - and I believe you can't find a more pure yellow than this - the photos don´t do the colour or the smell justice - nor the sound of the tree cousins playing in the bunk beds.

things that make me happy

I found the wire for my camera 2 minutes after I bought a new one - so now I can finally share some new stuff with you. So here´s a glimpse of things that makes me happy these days. Springflowers in every room, buying the painting I just had to have, making a DIY typecase for my daughter, Nanna, and introducing her to Miss Piggy, seeing a fun and multi-ethnic crowd in her doll-house, more macros photos of flowers, and the fact that Nanna has started to draw people and animals, like this green mouse.

2 x princess

Just had to share these darlings with you - Fastelavn/Carneval was 2 weeks ago and unlike last year, this year nothing could stop Nanna from dressing up as a princess - off course... Here she is with cousin Olivia, and a cheeky birthday boy in the background...

I´m always a little paranoid about posting pictures of my daugther - but since friends and family are regular readers here too - I have chosen to do it anyway. What´s your opinion? What would you do?

Blog Local Week - childrens drawings

My daughter´s kindergarden is another local spot where I get inspired! It looks very fancy from the outside - and inside it´s full of great childrens drawings that makes you smile. Nanna is more a painter than a drawer so I enjoy to snap mobile pics of the others drawings. Notice the cribs at the top floor it´s open air - since in DK most kids are napping outside in their cribs or prams.

Quick Christmas tree

Here´s a quick DIY-project if you have a child or innerchild who loves Barbapapa and Christmas trees - buy a small tree and wrap a Barbapapa string light around it - it takes 2 minutes and spreads a lot of joy! Have a great weekend!

Minilabo again

I´ve posted about Minilabo before - and it´s time to do it again, since their new products, top picture, looks so great. I really like their graphics and use of colour. The bottom pictures are some of their wallstickers - which we mounted in Nanna´s room some months ago - just never got around to share the result before now. Half was placed by me - the other half by her....

Ballerinas

When you have a 3,5 - year old daugther who wants to dress like a ballerina/princess all the time - a video like this new one from Dove kind of gets to you. I just wish that Dove wasn´t the company behind it - I would have loved it more if it was from a company selling a better product - like Jurlique - which just got a new look by the way. Someone actually made this video as a comment - make sure to watch it too.

Well - Nanna & I dance a lot of ballet in the kitchen these days and watch a lot of balletvideos on Youtube - and yesterday I saw this ballerina above that made me look twice - try it here - If she turns clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa. Most would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction. First she turned anti-clockwise and after some minutes I managed to make her change direction. Seen here. Sorry but I still can´t post directly from Youtube.

Last Day of Summer?

I think yesterday was the last summerday here in DK - but it was a good one - I even got a sunburn!

Print & patterns for children

To brigthen up this monday -here´s some prints and clothes by Småfolk - which makes great clothes for children. I often wish I could wear the same amount of colours and prints as Nanna, but I´m not sure I can pull it off :)
