Hoi An

We loved Hoi An - the old center is so pretty and quiet, with little traffic and only 4 km to a great beach - one of the days we went to the beach where the locals go - and was the only tourists around - don´t think I´ve ever experienced that before. Nanna created quite a stir due to her blond hair and pale skin - everybody just had to sit and stare at her for a while - or stroke her hair - or take her photo with their cameraphones - she didn´t enjoy it at all! Anyway Hoi An stole our hearts.

Halong Bay

After Hanoi - we enjoyed a small cruise in the beautifull and quiet Halong Bay, and on board I learned how to make vietnamese spring rolls - which is now one of my favorite dishes...

Hanoi

Here are a few glimpses from our trip.
Hanoi was hectic, hot, humid and charming and the traffic seemed hazardous -the numbers of mopeds in the streets was unbelievable.

Happy Holidays

Mr. K is a great travel planner so I´ve done very little research myself on our trip - but the other night I did a quick Flickr search on our destinations in Vietnam; Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi Ann and Puh Quoc - and these pictures came up and now I´m really excited!
I have some quite busy days ahead before leaving on Thursday - so this is my last post for the next 3 weeks - wishing you all a great summer - take care!

Discovered Virginia Johnson at decor8 - and now I wish I could pack one of these beauties in my travelbag for Vietnam.

Perfect posters

These clever posters made by Matt Willey from Studio8 Design in London, just stole my heart, since they are so simple & clever, communicating their message in a subtle but strong visual language. The posters are produced to raise awareness of the destruction of the Amazon rainforest for the US-based charity Rainforest Action Network (RAN).

Click at the images above to enlarge or buy them here or see the booklet at Magma Books - a great online bookstore.

'Forests are the lungs of the earth. The destruction of forests has been a fortifying factor in climate change. With millions of miles of old growth forests cleared every year, the earth is slowly suffocating under the increase of greenhouse gases'.

Bags

I had great fun at 1154 LILL´s webpage where you can design your own handbag. Here are a few of my designs. I just love webpages that allows you to play around with colours and patterns.

This bag - in blue, from Rikke Mai has been on my wishlist for a while now - it´s from a limited run of 100 unique handmade bags, it´s a bit expensive but I look for it everytime I pass the shop to see if it´s still there - so don´t you think I should go and get today?
A great summer bag is this solar powered beach bag - what a clever idea!
Well the bag was on sale when I checked it out later that day- so now it´s mine + a brand new pair of running shoes...

A fun project - Grib

The subject/challenge that was given to me was this vulture and some red velvet.

The cowboy theme that popped up in my head

My scrapbook with results of my internet research on vultures and cowboys

My final piece - a cowboy-themed photoshop collage,
Seeze Hope - and sew your own Cowboy hat!

I would like to introduce this fun project I´m part of right now named Grib! which means Catch! It´s a local project based here in Århus - and it´s inspired by this project. It all started last september when I met the talented photographer Ida Schmidt and we started talking about our freelance lives and all the clever freelancers/designers/photographers we knew here in Århus. To make a long story short - we invited 6 persons/studios to take part, and each got a wildcard - so that we would enlarge our network and end up beeing 12. The project is now up and running , with a great group of people, a blog and a book that circulates around town. The rules are simple, in 2 weeks create a visual piece inspired by a subject given to you - show your sketches/workprocess and the final result - and pass on a challenge/subject for the next person. The book must be delivered in person - over a coffee or beer together with the person you deliver it to. The blog is in Danish - but I hope you will enjoy it just the same, and may be inspired to create something similar in your own city.

You can see my workprocess above; I was inspired by Duane Hansson, Lucky Luke, Etsy, Misprinted type, Vinnie the Vulture and I couldn´t resist buying this retro cowboy-hat pattern on Etsy.

Inspiration is everywhere

Since I started reading the print&pattern blog last year - I´ve started to notice patterns everywhere - and I finally got around to snap these beauties hanging outside the thriftstore I pass everyday, and to make a new pattern in illustrator. I´m not a big thrifter anymore -but I still love Turquoise, patterns and weekends!

Eleanor Grosch

I´ve posted about Eleanor Grosch from Pushmepullyou before - and here we go again since these pillows designed for Urban Outfitters are too cute not to mention. On my wishlist is still a pair of Keds with seahorse print - and this pair with giraffes for Nanna.

Hay fever Zombie

It´s oh so pretty outside with green gras and red poppies - but I´m still suffering from Hay fever and feel like a Zombie for the second week in a row. I cured myself from hayfever 5 years ago by changing my diet - so maybe this is my body telling me to detox - or nature telling us that something is wrong when the amount of pollen is so high this year. I´m so happy to be going to Vietnam in 2 weeks - no pollen and great detox food!

I´m still here - busy as a bee and hit hard by hayfewer. I just updated my links section, and my blog-layout - always a work in progress! Here´s a picture of my desk and inspiration board. I´m going to Copenhagen tomorrow and from next week I´ll be back here as normal.
I´ll also start to label both new and old post then

Blog break & breakfast colours

My head is so full of pictures, concepts and words after Edelkoort´s extremely intense and inspiring talk yesterday - and today I have a strong urge to visualize what I heard. This photo is from Trendunions colour preview -combined with my notes. Spreads - a very yummy trend don´t you think?
Next week will be very busy due to lots of work and creative projects so I´m taking a blog break untill next monday. But I´ll be blogging in Danish here for the next week - so please join me! Take care.

Typo Highlight -Stupid Studio

To finish off the posts about highlights from Typoberlin, Stupid Studio is the perfect choice - since they delivered the best performance and a great combo of picture and music. They have just been voted into the top 3 of “best speakers” at this years TYPO Berlin at Fontblog - and you can see a part of their presentation here. So congrats to the super friendly and not so stupid guys!
I also enjoyed the works by
Mario Lombardo and Kim Hjorthøy.

Queen of Trends

Tomorrow I´m going to Arken near Copenhagen to hear a talk by the Queen of Trend -Lidewij Edelkoort, called COVERING Fashion and Interiors for 2009. I´ve been a great admirer of her work ever since I picked up a number of her magazine Bloom, about 7 years ago - so I´m really looking forward to this.

Yesterday Swissmiss posted about vecteezy stupid name. cool vectors - an index of Free Vectors and Brushes available for download. More music

Since this week is all about music here at my blog - I have to share this song with you. It´s played non-stop in DK right now and if you click at this link I´ll kill her - by Soko, you can hear it. For some reason I can´t post directly from youtube to my blog lately - sorry. Anyway she reminds my of a young french version of Bjork - and her accent is so cute and the lyrics are great. Soko´s myspace.

I´m also listening to August & The Red Apples new album right now. Don´t miss their very hand-held video that truely captures the spirit of Copenhagen in the summer. Biking around the city in the sun - and hanging out with friends and beer!

Typoberlin- phlow

Another highlight at Typoberlin was the talk by Moritz MO Sauer, from phlow. His talk was a great introduction to netlabels, creative commons, and Flash cover artworks. All of these topics were new to me and I love that he actually played some great music during his talk - and that he created 3 Netaudio-Compilations with all kinds of eletronic music from different netlabels that you can download here for free :)
The lovely cover-artwork above was made by his friend Jeannette Corneille. And we did see a lot of sewn typography everywhere - so get ready to sew your next headline.

Highlight from Typo - psyop

I´m back after a great and inspiring trip to Berlin, and eventhough this years Typo Berlin wasn´t as good as usual, there was still some great stuff around like this Tv-spot by Psyop which is still on my mind. I´ll post about the highlights this week- mixed with some music stuff.

16 May 2007

I´m a Berliner

I´m going to Berlin tomorrow for this years Typo Berlin -the theme is music - and I´m looking forward to be kicking back and seeing a lot of inspirational powerpoints, motion graphics, and hear some great music and speakers. Auf wiedersehen bis Montag!
And I have to say that Power Point Presentations can actually work well when designed with care and talent.

The Ultimate Mother's Day Gift

I believe this is the perfect gift for any mother - for Mothers Day - A donation to Maternity Worldwide. Help save a mother’s life and they will send a personalized certificate of sponsorship directly to your mom! Every minute of every day, a woman dies from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth.
I gave birth to Nanna by a caesarean section - not planned nor pretty! - so I donated the amount of a caeserean section for my own Mothers Day gift - being grateful that I live in a developed country and have a healthy daughter. Link to Maternity Worldwide in Denmark.

Here she is - 9 months old - for our christmas cards 2004 - my favorite gift!
